So, as we all know many of you have iPhones or Touches, and most of us eagerly anticipated the 2.0 release.
Once I was able to un-brick my phone from the disastrous update Friday (*ahem*), and got all up to date, I mostly liked what I see so far. There are some applications I'd really really like to see (and some that exist, but are just so poor they might as well not exist), but there are some useful ones too.
In particular, I really wanted a proper "ToDo" application on my phone. I use todo lists like nobody's business, and till now had been using the notepad function on the phone for this.
There are several todo apps in the App Store, so I had to do a lot of research. To name a few:
Todo (free)
Todo (paid)
Things
Zenbe Lists
Various voice recording lists
ReQall
Then there are tons of "Lists" apps that do similar functionality.
End of story I bought "Todo" (paid version) and it's really smooth. There are some features I'd really like to see still, which I'll be submitting to them, but it's a great app since it synchs with toodledo online.
What is your favorite app?

Remote.app is fantastic, especially if you have an Airport Express or AppleTV.
Also loving Monkey Ball and Trism.
Kind of disappointed with Things as there is no sync feature with the desktop version, although this is apparently coming.
However that is one of the areas that the SDK seems to be lacking, there doesn't seem to be a way to use iTunes as a conduit so each app has to implement syncing itself, you have to go into the desktop and mobile version of the app and sync it (based on the mobile version of the *pedia apps and the description of things syncing at least) which means it isn't seamless and I will forget.
Waiting for 1Password (which again sounds like it can't be as good as the desktop version as you can't plugin to Safari, so they are having to include a webkit based browser in it) and MobileScrobbler (although I really can't see how that is going to work).
Also hoping for mobile versions of Cha-Ching and Delicious Library, but since the developers of both those apps don't tell their users what is going on it could be a long time before that happens.
I'd also like something like Adium but I suspect we'll at least be waiting until the notification service is available for that.
All in all there isn't a huge amount I'm impressed with at the moment, but there is a lot of potential

I couldn't agree more there!
Im hoping to see some of that potential making it our way soon! I mean there are a large, very good, collection of applications that I do love using, but I also think that there needs to be some type of Global Syncing going on here. So all the Apps you have that require some sort of syncing, can be all be centralised to iTunes.
Currently I would say that my favourite app is also Todo (the paid one). It does what it needs to well at the moment and im quite happy with that!

Shazam is my favorite because of it's ingenuity. It figures out a songs info by listening to a small clip, such as your radio playing, then presents you with all the info, album art, link to buy in itunes, as well as any related youtube content.

Some things I'd like to see in Todo:
- Sub-lists
- Option to automatically sync
- Custom icons per list (at least choosable from a selection of icons)
- OpenID support for toodledo
- Calendar integration (though I don't think the iphone allows this natively, I have an idea to handle it myself)
- "Today" todo items springboard indicator
I had a few other ideas I'm forgetting now. All in all though it's pretty nice.

Overall though, I'd agree with your statement. I think it's only because it's a first release and developers are gauging the market. For instance, a personal organizer is just such a basic thing that I'm surprised it hasn't come out yet. If I had a Mac I'd develop it myself, but sadly the SDK isn't available for Windows.

I got midomi instead (does same thing) and it works well too.

Shazam is very good, but not available for iPod touch (as there is no mic)
I am also fond of Remote, I have an Airport Express too so that makes it even better - the look on people's faces is the best:
"Shall we put some music on?"
"Sure, let me just get my iPod..."
*Music suddenly starts blaring out of stereo*
"What the..!?"

Remote is great with the AppleTV.
Tap Tap Revenge is great (Free).
Also downloaded CBNK 3D as I wanted to try out a driving game. That's quite fun.
PhoneSaber is just funny.
That's about all I have downloaded so far.

Waaaait a minute... you have to
buy a proper tasks application for the iPhone? Good god, that's ridiculous!
I've heard some prety unflattering things about the selection of apps for the iPhone and iPod Touch - I don't have iTunes at all, so can anyone else confirm whether the App Store is actually flooded with things like "Flashlight" applications and other "compiled-straight-from-the-samples" applications?

There's some rubbish, but there's also some excellent apps too. I wouldn't say it's 'flooded'.
I haven't played with it much, but it looks like Aurora Feint The Beginning is going to be one of my favorite apps - and it's free. It's like bejeweled, but it makes use of the orientation of the phone.

I've been playing that game quite a bit, actually.

Only problem with it I have is that it sometimes seems jerky when going from unlocking a new item to the store, and from the store to the smith/tower depending on which you're choosing to unlock. Seems fine other than that.
Another I've been toying with is Crash Bandicoot and Aqua Forest.

Aurora Feint The Beginning is pretty wicked. All the paid games I tried so far aren't a match for it.

Yes, you do. There ARE free ones mind you, but the paid one I got seems much better in my opinion, largely due to the synchronization.
There are apps like Evernote, however, which are free (and quite popular), though this isn't exactly a todo app.
And yes, there are plenty of rubbish apps if you ask me. I do have a free flashlight app (you'd be surprised how often you find yourself using the phone as a flashlight

), but there are paid ones too - which do nothing more than generate a blank white screen. I can't believe people are trying to charge for these, especially while free ones exist.
There are ones that are supposedly remarkably similar to the example code apple provided (I haven't reviewed the sample code or anything, which is why I can't confirm). They get called out pretty quickly.
However there are some pretty nice ones there too. It's a "day one" launch and I'm hopeful that as this picks up better apps become available.

Absolutely gorgeous looking. I suppose it's too much to hope that they may put out a Windows version for the syncing huh? That would be out of this world...
I think that's the biggest thing I dislike about the iPhone. Everything for it is so Mac-centric. I'd love to write my own applications, but you need a Mac to use their SDK, for instance. Many apps have great syncing options with other Mac programs, but no Windows equivalents.

Hackintosh! Although it doesn't like my RAID setup... so gotta play SATA in, SATA out, depending on which HD I want to boot into, but otherwise it works fine and allows me to do what I need with SDK's and all that stuff. I bought TextMate and Transmit, amazing applications, although Notepad++ is roughly TextMate on the Mac...
If your looking for Windows, Mac, iPhone / iPod syncing I'd go with MobileMe, I really like it so far and the web based calendar is nice, so when I'm at work I plugin my shifts, at a meeting this date, ect. Then when I get home its already there

Wordpress app? I gotta check that out now, everything of mine basically runs off Wordpress haha

- Bank of America App
- Flashlight (so I can find the keyslots at night)
- Facebook
- Google / Google Apps
- AIM
- Ebay
- NyTimes
- Powce
- Remote
- SFNetNews
- Pandora (amazing)
- SmugShot
- Oracle

Bundles

Anyway the reason I've bumped this topic, Things 1.1 is out, with syncing, fantastically fast and fantastically simple. You can use it with multiple libraries. Just tags & areas to go and Things for the iPhone will be as good as Things for the Mac

I'm looking for a personal organizer and see that there are a few possibilities (something akin to eWallet, for instance) and having a hard time deciding which one to go with. Anybody recommend any good games? So far I have:
- Battleship something (highly recomend)
- SolFree (great, except wish it had Klondike 1 card... not three)
- Tetris
- Paper Football
Also is Safari crashing a lot when your trying something? Also when you use the erase button and tap it a few times, is all of a sudden "locks" and cleans out more then you wanted.

Same with SolFree although I am not that hardcore with card games so I wouldn't pay 9.99 for the entire collection unless it drops a lot. Any good app for Poker or other card games?
Just tried the Discovery Artillery app, its alright but nothing special, its neat moving the sliders, but gets boring quickly.

Well I like Mondo because it isn't just traditional solitaire - it has a LOT of different card games, in fact, Mondo is probably the game I play the most out of my collection.

Just a follow up, BeejiveIM is fantastically rock solid. Expensive, but for me well worth it. But they did have an advantage over other products, in that they already had an established server system for their Blackberry client.

No, you can set it to stay connected on their servers for up to 24 hours, you can have it email you whenever you get a new message, so if you use MobileMe you'll get push notifications
