Hey Guys,

For those of you out there that use Macs out there, what FTP apps do you use? I've used Cyberduck and Transmit... Cyberduck was ok for a while, and then later on it just became too unreliable, so I invested in Transmit.

For the most part Transmit works perfectly... just sometimes when I'm uploading/downloading files the transfer process will hang. This generally happens when I'm pulling a folder full of files to/from a server. It will hang on one file in the queue and stay there for five minutes, and then eventually resume. Is this a problem with the application, or just the connection? Because it can be very irritating... Then lately Transmit has totally hung forcing me to "Force Quit". This tends to happen once a week or so.

Has anyone experienced these issues? Is there anything else you feel works better?

Personally, I feel Transmit is the best out there. Well definitely the best I have ever found.

I've experienced the same problems as you describe but only for a few seconds and at the worst, never more than a minute. I've never had to Force Quit the application before. Maybe you should contact the developers to see if they can assist you!

I have never heard of/used Transmit, so cannot comment.

I use the free FTP client FileZilla on both Mac & PC and it works fine.

Question... is there any sync capabilities possible with FireZilla? I know that it's a plugin for FireFox and that it is cross platform.. And there are plugins that sync bookmarks across systems... Is there any way to sync these "bookmarks". One of the things I've always wanted to do was sync my bookmarks across CuteFTP and Transmit, since I work in somewhat of a cross-platform development environment.

FileZilla isn't a plugin for firefox, that is FireFTP wink.gif

Seems pretty good so far!

I use CuteFTP for PC, and it has all the features plus some. They made a mac version so I assume its just as good original.gif

Unfortunately it isn't. It's pretty limited. When I first made the transition from Windows to Mac that was the first thing I tried... It just doesn't compare to it's window's counterpart.

Foxmarks, bookmark sync'ing in Firefox

If you have MobileMe (.MAC) you can setup Transmit to sync your bookmarks, thats what I do and it works great. As for FileZilla I have not tried it on the Mac yet, although its a bare bones FTP client, nothing fancy, does the job. I run it off my Flash Drive for when I'm on the go, and now I use it on Windows XP since SmartFTP had to go paid :/

Transmit here.

Cyberduck here. Transmit is very nice but I use FTP so rarely I've never been bothered enough to buy it. original.gif

I've been using Captain FTP for a long time. It was free when I first started using it but now it's $29. Overall it's good, clean interface and the transfers are fairly fast. Some other nice little features that I use like telling how big a directory is and changing ownership (if you can do that on your server). I'd recommend it as a viable alternative:

That sucks :S

Why would they limit it so terribly? shocked.gif

Forlift looks nicer then Transmit, although I was watching my friend use it and it timeout out a lot...

Will have to try forklift when I get back in the office (currently in Hungary at DrupalCon - biggest geekfest I have been to! Anyone else here?)

Don't really recommend it but it's nice to try out: http://extendmac.com/flow/

Personally I use transmit and I know what you mean about the hanging, but it's the best I have found. Looking forward to see what they do with 4.
