How many people are eagerly awaiting this months updates :-) If all goes well, its thought that pretty much every single product is going to get an update, with the new iPods out on September 9th.

Whereas a lot is still rumours, it is fact that Apple said there profits will sink in Q4 because of mass advertising, so.. anyone awaiting the new mini tongue.gif

Anyone know whats going to be 'new' yet ?
Stephen
I just want them to release 2.1 of the iPhone firmware.

But I will be keeping an eye on laptops, been thinking of upgrading my MB to a MBP for a while, although I'll probably leave it until after Macworld.
SnakEyez02
Well it's obvious the iPods will be getting updates since they did the free iPod promotion again for college students. The Mac Pro is also due for an update along with the Macbook and Macbook Pro and probably the Air as well. There is a rumor about new monitors also. Personally I am hoping the Macbook Pros upgrade to Intel's new Core 2 Quad mobile processor.

The big update announcement will be OS X 10.6 and probably more information on it then what is currently on that website because while the focus is taking full advantage of the Intel processors, they need some sort of features because I don't think people will pay another $129 for a partial upgrade, unless 10.6 becomes a free update to Intel users like 10.1 was. If it is I will probably wait until 10.7 to upgrade my Powerbook.
Alεx
As far as I know, 10.6 was scheduled for next years WWDC?

As for what is meant to be updated

To be honest, I think all you'll see this month is the new iPods and 2.1 iPhone software. They certainly won't update everything this month, it will leave them with nothing to talk about at Macworld.
I reckon that the notebooks and monitors will be unveiled at Macworld. Everything else will be released over time without fanfare.

But with Apple, anything can happen.
Jaggi
they are going to announce the icar, a cool looking car but will only do 2 mpg.

laughing.gif At the way Apple are going though, I think we *may* see some price reductions.

Yeah about time getlost.gif

I'm waiting till next September to buy a laptop for college, because I am not shelling out 1500 for a laptop and then a few months later have it change on me, just can't afford it. Why would you buy an Apple monitor they are way over priced compared to all the other companies on the market. I mean they are nice, but just ridiculous prices.

For the same reason people buy MobileMe wink.gif

There might be updates for Mac Mini - iPods and LCDs.

- They've nearly forgotten Mac Mini after releasing it. They may announce the end of life of it or just upgrade it.

- Apple may reduce iPods' prices because of iPhone's price.

Release yes. More details of it should come at this event though because 10.6 is still rumored to be a free update and I am very curious to know whether it will be an Intel-only upgrade to Leopard as 10.1 was, or whether it will be a true upgrade to Leopard.

If Apple releases a new MacBook Pro, I will do whatever is in my power to collect the cash to purchase the 17". I so really need a new computer.

I already got my update; I bought the 3G iPhone on Saturday. biggrin.gif
And about the 2.1 firmware, does anyone suspect they would add support for notes and tasks for Microsoft Exchange Server?

They will release it. However, if you can wait, I would recommend waiting till January for buying one though so you don't have to go back out for 10.6 (if it is not a free Intel update).

I'm personally waiting till they put at least a Core2 Quad processor in the Macbook Pros because the Core Duos just aren't enough reason for me to upgrade my Powerbook. I'm hoping the Core 2 Quads will be here in time for the 10.6 or 10.7 release.

What has January got to do with Snow Leopard? They said "about a year" at WWDC
Cybertimber2008
Why would anyone think its going to be free? For heavens sake, they charged for "n" capability and to update the iPod Touch!
Go ahead and forget that rumor.
Stephen
Their excuse for that was because they were feature upgrades (not that I agree with it), Snow Leopard has no new features at all, hence why people believe it may be free.
Cybertimber2008
Well that would make sense then.

iTunes 8 whistling.gif ....

QUOTE
Add another possibility to the list of possible announcements at Apple's iPod event next week: a new version of iTunes.

Digg's Kevin Rose, fresh off his prediction that Apple has a new iPod Nano design in store for next week, shares word from an unnamed source on Wednesday that Apple plans to introduce iTunes 8 at the same event. "iTunes 8 includes Genius, which makes playlists from songs in your library that go great together. Genius also includes Genius sidebar, which recommends music from the iTunes Store that you don't already have," Rose's tipster wrote.

I'm a little curious as to how that would actually work: by genre? By tempo? By finding like-minded artists?

Would your Biggie and Tupac songs be put together in a playlist because they are both rap tracks? Or would Biggie's songs be put together with your Velvet Underground tracks because they are both from New York? Do Britney and Christina go together? Or Pink Floyd and The Grateful Dead?

The use of the word "Genius" is also a little curious, given that Apple already uses that term to describe its army of customer service representatives at its retail stores. Still, such a feature would be convenient, even if it takes half the fun out of making mixes.

Rose also reports that iTunes 8 will allow you to view your library as a grid, download HD television shows from the iTunes Store, and "enjoy a stunning new music visualizer" that I'll guess was designed to go along with your new Pink Floyd/Grateful Dead playlist.

I'd love to see an iTunes music subscription coming - Nokia is going to release a bunch of cellphones with a "Music Included" package.

And speaking of iTunes 8, why not finally have the lyrics for each song included in the files?

If they'd forgotten about it, they wouldn't be suing Psystar for their Mac-mini clones.
Stephen
Psystar weren't Mac Mini clones as such, they were proper towers.

Why do you think they wouldn't be suing them if it weren't for the Mac Mini? It is to do with them breaking the license agreement, not to do with competing with the Mini wassat.gif
Alεx
I personally don't see the Mini being put on the shelf, its quite a big product in terms of sales. A lot of people can't afford the whole top-end iMacs, so thats where the Mini is perfect in every way.
Mert
Absolutely. They just have to make a decision about the future of the product. That was what I tried to mean.

I've been so waiting for that. getlost.gif
Stephen
Um, you can do that wassat.gif

or do you mean in songs downloaded from iTS? I believe they are starting that, there has been talk of Snow Patrol's next album being the first to have embedded lyrics.

There is quite a lot to suggest that the Nano is going tall and slim again. A lot of pictures coming to light at Mac Rumors, at first I thought they looked fake, but everything is starting to fit together now, over the past few weeks, different leaked images have appeared, all showing the new tall, slim look. And to top it all, at IFA in Berlin, one of the products on show was an iPod Nano skin, which happened to be tall and slim tongue.gif

It looks a lot like the 2G Nano.

Only thing i will ever look for from Apple would be their iphones, tongue.gif

New features would be a good thing, hehe *Evil grin*

Oh, oops... Their first product (IIRC) was a mac-mini clone. I didn't realize they did away with it in favor of just the desktop (which also IIRC, was "soon to be released" when the mini clone was for sale).

Either way, I still don't think the Mini's going anywhere. I wish we could have bought an affordable mini PC that was also upgradeable for our public computers at the library. A full desktop seems unnecessary, and takes up a lot of space. The only problem with that is they're too small - people would steal them and we would have had to construct cages or locks of some sort. sad.gif
